Driving lessons restart on the Isle of Man

Car-sharing, driving tests and lessons are now permitted on the Isle of Man.

People can now car-share with two people from another household, and the DOI announced due to these changes tests and lessons are able to resume.

The department says the move comes following discussions with those in the indsutry and that formal requirements to make sure safety guidance is being followed will be issued in the coming days.

Tom Hixon, head of instructor support at Bill Plant Driving School, said: “This is great news for those living in the Isle of Man – both for those who are keen to get behind the wheel and learn to drive, and those who rely on car sharing to get to and from work, as well as go about their daily lives.

“With lockdown restrictions easing and people keen to get back to a routine, whatever that may look like now, we hope that those who are going to be involved in driving lessons or car sharing are taking the relevant precautions and safety measures to ensure everyone in the vehicle is safe.

“While we have no clear date throughout England and the rest of the UK for when driving lessons can restart, this is going to be positive news for driving instructors and pupils, even those it doesn’t directly impact them right now, it demonstrates positive news is around the corner!”

  1. So driving instructors are meeting 1 person from a different household at a time, being unable to socially distance, and several such meetings each day ????
