Driving lessons resume in England and Wales

Theory tests are also due to resume today (12 April) in England and Wales.

Driving lessons can resume in England and Wales from today (12 April).

Theory tests are also due to resume today.

Driving tests will restart on Thursday 22 April, if government guidance allows. This includes ADI tests.

DVSA intends to restart instructor testing from 22 April. Any ADI part 2 and 3 tests and standards checks booked after testing is planned to restart will go ahead as planned. If your part 2 or 3 test or standards check is on hold, DVSA  will contact you to arrange a new time and date as soon as we are able to.

The AA Driving School has warned the government must prepare for huge demand for driving tests. More than 26,000 people have requested a notification from the AA Driving School when lesson booking re-opens, and the driving schools have seen nearly 177,000 individual searches for driving lessons since December 2020.

Return dates in Scotland are dependent on the local tier system and they will not be before 26 April.
