DVSA message regarding industrial action on 1 February

The following is a message from the DVSA regarding the industrial action scheduled to take place on 1st February.

PCS Union has instructed all DVSA members to take part in a national civil service-wide day of strike action on Wednesday 1 February.

We are unable to confirm what level of impact this action might have on our services but some vocational tests may be affected.

To protect vocational tests we will use local warrant card holders to prioritise vocational tests where possible.

If your pupil has booked a test themselves

We’re contacting all pupils who have a test booked on the strike date in an affected region. This will tell them what to do and direct them to more information about the strike action on GOV.UK.

If you have booked and named a test for your pupil

Talk to your pupil to tell them that their test may be affected by the strike action.

If they want you to, you can change the date of the test now through your normal online booking system. You must give at least 3 clear working days’ notice to change the test date, or you’ll have to pay again.

If they do not want to change the date, they should turn up for their appointment as planned. If the test cannot go ahead, they’ll be able to claim out-of-pocket expenses. They must have turned up for their test to be able to do this.

If you still have unnamed tests

If you have unnamed tests dates in areas that may be affected by industrial action you can cancel the booking if you no longer plan to use the appointment. This must be done in line with the normal cancellation process.

Cancelling some tests in advance

To help us understand the extent of strike action on our testing services, we are cancelling a small number of tests in advance. If any of your test bookings are affected, we will refund the booking fee.

You must let your pupils know if this affects their test.

CBT checks

If you have a CBT check booked that does not go ahead during the industrial action, we will contact you afterwards to rearrange.

Customer service centre

Our customer service centre might be affected by the strike action and it may take longer than usual to answer your query. The customer service centre will close at 4pm on Wednesday 1 February 2023.
