Concerns over fuel availability and rising running costs are continuing to place pressure on Driver Trainers across the UK, following a new YouGov poll suggesting many motorists believe fuel rationing could happen later this year.
The survey found that 40% of respondents think petrol and diesel rationing is either “very likely” or “fairly likely” during 2026. While no Government plans for rationing have been announced, the findings reflect ongoing public concern around fuel supply, energy security, and transport costs.
For Driver Trainers, fluctuating fuel prices and supply concerns can directly affect lesson pricing, vehicle running costs, and overall business planning.
These issues were recently explored during a special Motormouth discussion, Driving Through Rising Fuel Prices, featuring Keith Lane, Kevan Chippindall-Higgin, Tommy Sandhu, Graham Hooper and Carly Brookfield.
The panel discussed the impact of rising fuel prices on Driver Trainers, including:
- Running costs
- Lesson pricing
- Vehicle choice
- Eco-driving
- Practical ways to future-proof training businesses
