A new online learner driver training platform has launched, offering ADIs and driving schools additional digital learning materials to use alongside practical lessons.

Driving Schools Online, a division of E-Training World, provides a library of video-based training modules covering the skills learners are expected to develop for the practical driving test.

Supporting learning between lessons

The modules use in-car cameras, roadside footage and aerial views to demonstrate driving situations on real roads. Learners can access the content on smartphones, tablets and computers.

According to the provider, the bite-sized sessions cover topics from across the learning-to-drive syllabus and were developed in partnership with ADI Vicky Folland.

The online learner driver training platform is intended to complement practical tuition rather than replace it. Instructors can allocate individual modules to support their lesson plans or allow learners to progress through the complete library independently.

This could give learners an opportunity to revisit subjects between lessons while allowing more in-car time to be focused on practical skills and areas requiring further development.

An additional service for instructors

Driving Schools Online also offers instructors the option of providing the platform as an additional paid service. The company says this could help driving schools broaden their offering and generate supplementary income.

Graham Hurdle, Managing Director of Driving Schools Online, said: “Driving Schools Online allows instructors to enhance the learning experience, support students beyond the weekly lesson and offer a service that many learners increasingly expect: flexible, digital learning that fits around their lives.”
